Professor Dr. Md. Danesh Miah, Professor and Director,Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong

Dr.  M. Danesh Miah (1971) is a professional forester with an experience of about Eighteen years. Presently, he is a Professor and Director in the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, University of Chittagong. He began his professional career in 1998 as a Regional Sector Specialist (Social Forestry) in the BRAC, Bangladesh; in 2000 as a Lecturer in the University of Chittagong. He teaches the major courses on Global climate change, Energy and environment, Mitigation and carbon trading, Forest resource economics and project analysis.

He pursued his BSc (Hons) in Forestry and MSc in Forestry degrees in Bangladesh and PhD in the Republic of Korea. During 2009 through 2011 he was a JSPS post doctoral fellow in Shinshu University, Japan. He received professional experiences in different ways from Bangladesh, the Republic of Korea and Japan. Along with this, he worked as a national consultant on the issues of forest carbon in UNDP, FAO, GIZ and Arannyak Foundation. Since 2001 till to date, Dr. Miah has been working as a Senate member for University of Chittagong. In addition, since 2013, he has been serving as a Provost for the Masterda Surjusen Hall of the same University. He is interested in climate change mitigation, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), REDD+ and forestry. His endeavors are to find out the ways how to optimally mitigate the global climate change by forest management. He is the author/co-author of the significant number of peer reviewed scientific articles published in national and international journals. Till to date, he has published 72 peer reviewed articles in the prestigious journals home and abroad.
